Kenyans ranks high of not trusting the Office of the Presidency comprised of Executive over empty promises  

Ms Angela Ambitho-CEO, Electoral Law and Governance Institute for Africa, warns of 48 per cent higher voter apathy in 2027 if no election related reforms done

The Executive and National Assembly is now leading by 37 per cent of trust deficit as Kenyans do not totally trust them at all in the way they are conducting their businesses under the current administration.

While releasing findings, on Monday 16th December, Electoral Law and Governance Institute for Africa [ELGIA] CEO Ms Angela Ambitho, after their research to gauge and understand the public confidence levels on a range of issues found out that 33 per cent of Kenyans also do trust Kenya  Police.

Judiciary fall number four as 30 per cent of Kenyans do not trust justice systems citing of infiltration by the executive and other external forces, while opposition takes 23 per cent of trust  deficit

Kenyans have now ranked high in trusting only the media and religious leaders by 95 per cent and 92 per cent respectively as they put their hope in heavens come next general election 

However, according to the new research which was done between 16th November and 30th November, 2024, 33 per cent of Kenyans are calling for the government to strengthen public institutions and stop meddling with the affairs of independent institutions like IEBC and Judiciary.

The Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC is not trusted by Kenyans as 29 per cent of citizens allays their fears of interference by the external forces

“There will be 48 per cent of voter apathy in 2027 if Kenya do not put necessary reforms and infrastructures that restores public confidence in the handling of elections, this can be done by strengthening public institutions mandated with governance,” Angela Ambitho remarked.

What should be done before 2027

Kenyans demands reconstitution and  digitization of the electoral agency and be allowed to elect the chair of Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) having trust issues on the select panel which has been engulfed by political back forth 

“There is hope, willingness among Kenyans that if IEBC is reconstituted properly without interference by external forces, it can conduct free, fair, credible, transparent and efficient elections in the next General Elections 2027,” Ms Angela Ambitho- CEO, ELGIA
