County Ministry of Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services Conducts Sensitization Exercise on Gender Based Violence (GVB) in Kitui East(Nzambani and Chuluni) and Kitui Rural (Kisasi) Wards
The county ministry of Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services through the Gender Department conducted a sensitization exercise on Gender Based Violence(GBV) with community leaders today.
The training aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of violence and abuse based on gender, and to work towards eradicating such behavior from society.
Speaking during the sensitization exercise at DCC hall,Nzambani ward, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Phoebe Mutemi, emphasized the need for community leaders to handle Gender-based violence cases with utmost seriousness and without interference.
Further , she urged leaders to play an active role in educating the community on the importance of gender equality and to embrace the rights of all genders.
On handling gender based violence cases she encouraged on the need to show love and compassion to the victims of violence
CECM Phoebe added that the prioritization of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) is a key sector focus in the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Julius Malombe and his administration is geared towards development to all people without discrimination.
Gender-based violence, which encompasses harmful acts directed at individuals due to their gender, is a prevalent issue globally. Statistics reveal that approximately one in three women will experience sexual or physical violence at some point in their lives.
Recognizing the urgency and significance of addressing this issue, the ministry undertook the initiative to educate and engage the community.
The sensitization exercise served as a platform for community members to learn about the various forms of gender-based violence, its consequences, and the role each individual can play in preventing such acts.
By addressing the issue head-on and fostering a culture of respect and equality, the County Ministry hopes to bring about lasting change and build a society free from abuse.
The participants expressed their appreciation for the training and their commitment to actively contribute to the eradication of Gender-based violence.
The county ministry’s efforts are lauded as a significant step towards creating a safer and more inclusive community for all.
The exercise brought together representatives from community and administrative level in the two sub counties
