The Senate committee investigating into the killings of hundreds of faithfuls at Shakahola has on Friday 13th October ordered the arrest of chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor
The committee’s Chair Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana ordered Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to ensure Oduor is brought before the committee on Tuesday 17th October
“We have issued three summons three times where by this government official has all snubbed to appear.
In exercise of the law, we order police to arrest him and be brought before committee at 10am on Tuesday 17th October, 2023
These orders of arrest should be effected by the IG, bring him before this committee to answer questions related the tests he performed at Shakahola and shed more light on the same,” Mungatana ordered
The committee also ordered the officer to deposit Sh 500,000 as a fine from his pocket over failure to appear before the parliamentary investigative committee that works as a quasi-judicial
Additionally, the committee ordered SSP Erick Ochieng in charge of controversial preacher Paul McKenzie’s prison facilitate and produce him before the committee on the same dateMungatana gave short warning to Senior Sergeant Ochieng for obstructing the fair hearing of the justice where the committee is mandated by the law to investigate all capable individuals into the Shakahola Massacre
“We are warning this officer in the prison where Mackenzie has been held to facilitate his appearance before this committee, and if he goes against these orders, we shall hold him accountable as an individual not the government’s position where we shall provoke the necessary action against him,” Mungatana who is an Advocate of the High Court maintained
He noted particularly government pathologist has invaded to come before the committee three times alluding was in burial ceremony and the second time said was conducting some exhumations in rural areas
He reminded the officers to understand that higher ranking goverment officials have honoured the committee’s invites and summons, and they should not fear anything appearing before the legislators
