President William Ruto on Friday hosted a delegation of leaders from the three counties in Ukambani region at State House, Nairobi, to discuss his upcoming tour of the area ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20.
The delegation, led by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, comprised senior leaders from Ukambani serving in both the Executive and Parliament.

The discussions centred on the President’s itinerary for the visit, ongoing development projects in the region and preparations for the national celebrations to be held in Kitui county on 20th October, 2025.
Mutua, said the meeting, underscored Ruto’s commitments, to the socio-economic transformation of the region.
“The President, whose heart is firmly committed to the development of our people, shared with us various projects he has implemented and others that are ongoing across Ukambani. We also discussed the calendar of his visit, which begins next week, and the specific activities that will be officially announced by his office upon his review,” he said.
In his remarks, President Ruto said the government’s focus had shifted from stabilising the economy to accelerating growth and creating opportunities for Kenyans.
“We have come a long way in stabilising our economy. The task ahead now is to accelerate our economic growth and create wealth and jobs. This calls for our collective commitment and focus. We will march on together, every step of our way, for the long-term transformation of Kenya,” he said.
Ruto, also expressed appreciation to leaders from the region who have joined the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development.
“I want to specifically thank Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna of the Wiper Party for his bold move to join our team so as to push forward the development agenda in his constituency,” he added.
This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be held at the newly constructed Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui county.
The celebrations, themed “Energy”, will honour Kenya’s heroes and heroines while showcasing the government’s achievements and investments in the energy sector.
During a visit to the stadium on September 30, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the facility was 92 per cent complete, with roofing, seating and access works set for completion in the coming days.
He assured that the government was committed to ensuring seamless and secure celebrations.
