President Ruto launches Ikutha-Mutha-Mutomo Road

President William Ruto has launched much anticipated Ikutha-Kanziko-Mutha-Mutomo road Phase 1, marking a significant milestone following the decades of deplorable road conditions that makes the area lagging behind in development

While speaking at Ikutha town, the Head of a State, reaffirmed his commitment in transforming region’s infrastructural networks to boos the economy and ease movement, linking the lower eastern counties as well as accelerating agricultural growth. 

The said road network will enable farmers of mung beans which is their cash crop harvest fair returns after rainy seasons due to accessibility of the produce and also enable livestock farmers from neighboring counties of Tana River and Garissa access market for their livestock

“I want to challenge opposition to have politics of development but not empty stories. We are competing with people who don’t have agenda and vision for this country. There’s no region of this country should be left behind in development. 

The President emphasised that politics of tribal bigotry have no place in Kenya, we are all dreaming to built. He was received by Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe and area Member of Parliament Rachel Nyamai. 

Additionally, President issued 15,000  title deeds to residents of Ikutha, out of 42,000 documents that were submitted for titling.

The title deeds will enable farmers from the area access credit facility from financial institutions by using the pivotal document as collateral to either improve their businesses, boost agriculture or construct residential houses

President also launched Kwa Siku Mbondoni road project within the sides of Mwingi, after three years of confusion whereby contractors had abandoned the completion of the project citing budgetary cuts, political goodwill associatend with other logistical technicalities. 

The Sh 3.8 billion project spans 27 kilometers and is expected to be completed within two years. Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe commended the President for the initiative, welcoming the national government’s efforts to improve the county’s infrastructure.

It had previously stalled, but with the recent launch, residents now have renewed hope for its completion. Local leaders believe the road will boost economic activities, improve access to markets, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people of Kitui.

The launch was attended by various dignitaries, including the Governor and other leaders, who praised the President for prioritizing development in the region. With the project underway, the residents of Kitui are eagerly awaiting its completion, expecting it to bring positive changes to their lives.

However, President Ruto flagged off 100,000 kilograms of certified cotton seeds in Kwasiku, Mwingi West Subcounty, Kitui County, to boost Kenya’s cotton sector.

Kitui CECM for Agriculture, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, noted the distribution of the seeds will go a long way in empowering farmers and boosting agricultural productivity. 

He emphasized that cotton farming has the potential to transform rural livelihoods by creating jobs, increasing household incomes, and supporting local industries such as textile manufacturing and oil extraction. 

The government aims to reduce dependency on imports, promote local manufacturing, and improve the country’s trade balance.

Dr. Kimwele added that the county will continue supporting farmers through training, capacity building, and market linkages to ensure the success and sustainability of cotton farming in the region. 

He further noted that Kitui Ginneries will collect harvested cotton from farmers across the county, ensuring a ready market for their produce.
