TARDA MD LIBAN ROBA URGES DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS TO HElP MITIGATE EFFECTS OF DROUGHT

The Tana Athi River Development Authority Managing Director Liban Roba Duba has emphasized on the importance of finding sustainable solutions to combat prolonged droughts and loss of livestock 

Speaking during the Development Partners Breakfast Meeting at Weston Hotel in Nairobi on Wednesday 1st  October, Duba focused on pressing issues of arid and semi arid areas due to recurring droughts that plagued regions of North Eastern, Coastal and Eastern  Regions 

Mr Duba, passionately spoke about the power of planting trees as a means to mitigate the effects of drought and improve the conditions of arid and semi-arid lands, commonly known as ASALs.

He stressed the need for collaboration among governments, organizations, and communities to implement tree-planting initiatives on a large scale.     

The MD emphasized the potential of such efforts to not only combat drought but also enhance biodiversity, improve soil quality, and provide livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Drawing from his extensive knowledge and experience, Liban Roba Duba outlined a comprehensive plan. He highlighted the significance of reforestation efforts, explaining how the strategic planting of trees could help restore ecological balance, conserve water resources, and create a more resilient environment and hopping by five years to come there will be efficient changes to these affected areas.

On behalf of representing his other teams, he explains more about TARDA and their goals and Ambitions;

The Authority’s goal is to contribute in achieving Kenya Vision 2030 by implementing strategies for sustainable development and optimal use of natural resources to enhance and sustain livelihoods within its area of Jurisdiction. The Authority’s focus is to attain Organizational Stability and Sustainable Development through enhanced integrated natural resources management.

The Strategic Objectives of TARDA are:

•: To strengthen the institutional human capital capacity for optimal service delivery.

•: To enhance TARDA’s financial stability.

•: To adopt the use of modern technology for operational efficiency in institutional processes, procedures and products.

•: To enhance natural resources studies and integrated planning to inform the potential for sustainable resource utilization and development.

•: To implement natural resource-based development projects and promote basin-based investments for sustainable development and enhanced livelihoods.

•: To implement climate change adaptation and mitigation programs to build resilience of vulnerable communities.

•: To develop broad consultative and collaborative frameworks with stakeholders for coordinated integrated development.
