Police have arrested two more Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s leaders with the latest being former kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Prof Makau Mutua
The two are reported to have been taken to unknown place by detectives who had directives from the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki
Confirming the arrests in the afternoon press briefing in Nairobi, opposition’s leader Raila Odinga noted that the police pounced the two in the afternoon
“They have today arrested Prof Makau Mutua and Wycliffe Oparanya, tomorrow they will arrest more persons. We are ready for the drama but we want to remind them that this will not stop River Nile from flowing to it’s final destination,” Raila warned
However, Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya released after arrest for allegedly demonstrating using a government vehicle
In order to condole with the families that have lost their loved ones in yesterday’s battle front with the police, Raila announced five days of mourning until Wednesday 19th July
Raila said that they will resume their streets protests next week which is enshrined in the constitution of Kenya under Article 37, right to assemble to picket to hold demonstrations and present petitions to public authorities
He seized the opportunity to thank his supporters for coming out yesterday in large numbers, yet calling for morer number and readiness in jamming the streets as of next week’s countrywide picketing
“We will have our protests every Wednesday. Everything we are going to do will be done with the strict confines of the law. We do not fear deaths amid frustrated Kenyans who were duped into the poor leadership that seems to deprive them of their basic rights. After all, at Kamukunji where we usually hold our rallies, there are no shops nor buildings which this properties regime claims we destroy,” Raila asked
Azimio’s long statement was read by former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa as they flanked Raila together with the Roots Party Leader Prof George Wajackoyah
Early on Thursday 13th July, Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau was arrested from his Karen home, interrogated and released there after, where Azimio condemned the arrests saying they are ready for more arrests
But Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki has warned that there’s re-emergence of criminal groups associated with the politicians and they must crack the whips to avoid replica of coup-de tat to the 2007/2008 post election violence
