Embattled Registrar of Trade Unions Ms Beatrice Mathenge at Milimani Law Court where Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union had sued her for contempt of court and failure to comply with court orders.

The Public Service Commission has directed the Registrar of Trade Unions to report back at the AG’s office for deployment

Ms Beatrice Mathenge has been labelled as apparatchik for being “serial contemnor” and gut-wrenching-contumacy

The Public Service Commission has directed the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Labour and Skills Development Shadrack Mwadime to immediately release Ms Beatrice Mathenge who has been holding office as Registrar of Trade Unions contrary to court orders

In a letter seen by safinews.co.ke on Monday 12th August, dated 2nd August, from the commission forwarded to the principal secretary is that, Ms Mathenge has been holding the position despite the court ruling made on 3rd November 2023 which nullified her tenure

The commission has now directed that Ms Beatrice Mathenge be released back to the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice for deployment within the office with immediate effect

”The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection do forwards to the commission the indent for the position of Registrar of Trade Unions within seven [7] days to enable the commission recruit a substantive holder of the office,” PSC directed.

Ms Anne Kagwiria Kanake, the Deputy Registrar of Trade Unions has been appointed as the acting registrar of trade unions for a period of six months pending the recruitment and appointment of the substantive office holder

“Pursuant to the ruling, the commission notes that through the letter dated 3rd November 2023, your office informed the commission of the court decision and requested that the commission proceeds to fill the nine [9] vacant positions [all inclusive] in the office of the Registrar of Trade Unions,’’ Part of the letter read

Further, the commission noted that on 19th February, 2024, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection requested for the recruitment of 172 vacant posts in the State Department which included two posts of Principal Registrar of Trade Unions

The Public Service Commission notes with great concern that both requests did not have the indent for recruitment for the Office of Registrar of Trade Unions as directed by the Honourable Court
