Wetangula call for unified lughya nation lest they risk being outsmarted in spite of their numbers
Atwoli prepares to hold another Bukhungu stadium to declare luhya leader who’ll take the mantle 2027
Calls for a united Western Kenya political leadership dominated the burial ceremony of Agneta Nerima Wangwe, mother to Navakholo MP Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said that it was time the Western leaders had a unity of purpose if they were to get their rightful share of the national cake.
His remarks stemming from utterances made by a section of politicians who while addressing the mourners criticised the action taken by some luhya leaders to support the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Our numbers mean nothing if we continue talking like we are talking now. Crowds are not votes, and votes are not crowds. I stand for our unity, but we must also work with other communities. To be president you must win in 24 counties, how many do we have now, only five…we must look for allies.” Wetang’ula quipped.
Wetang’ula went on to tell off leaders he said were laying bare their strategies in funerals and gatherings and using the political podium to humiliate and insult colleagues stating that a good strategy was crafted in the boardroom.
His sentiments seemingly shared by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli who revealed plans to host “Bukhungu Three” political meeting where a declaration on the future of the Mulembe nation will be made.
“Leadership requires strategy, you must be in a strategic engagement. For you to get leadership (presidency), its not mandatory that you must have served as deputy president, you can be a deputy president yet you are clueless about which way the government is headed. It is not about the number of people you have its all about strategy”, Atwoli stated.
With pressure mounting on affiliate parties within Kenya Kwanza to fold, reports indicating that the Musalia Mudavadi led Amani National Congress (ANC) has succumbed to the pressure, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi implored FORD Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula to remain firm.
“I am an ODM member but count me in on matters that affect our people and the region. Mr. Speaker word is you have been asked to fold your parties, do not budge. Ford Kenya is the heritage of the people of Western Kenya,” said Osotsi.
Seemingly aiming his guns at President William Ruto, Osotsi stated that anyone who have goodies for the people of Western Kenya should do it irrespective of the political party they are affiliated.
And with the proposed Finance Bill 2024 continuing to elicit mixed reactions, a section of opposition MPs stating their readiness to shoot down its proposals when it comes before the house, the National Assembly Speaker reiterated his earlier warning to MPs to spare members of the public their rhetoric on a matter that was under their jurisdiction.
“You have the final say on the Finance Bill, your vote is the determinant.” affirmed the Speaker.
The leaders vowed to pile pressure on the government to release the necessary resources to cater for the completion of various stalled infrastructure projects in the region particularly roads which have now been rendered impassable owing to the heavy downpour that has rocked the country.
