Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accuses media of spreading fake news

President William Ruto has made it clear that he will be watching to see thoss Members of Parliament who will oppose the Finance Bill 2023 on Tuesday 6th June

Speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya at Narok, the Head of State reiterated his unwavering push for the bill to transform the economy

His Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lectured media for creating negative narrative against the controversy surrounding the Finance Bill 2023

Speaking at the same function, Gachagua said that media has been reporting fake news even yesterday’s remarks at St Charles Lwanga Boys Secondary in Kitui County were misquoted  

Mr Gachagua said that he woke up to misleading news in all national newspapers, when he sought kamba leaders to rally behind the Finance Bill in order to get much sought development 

“Your Excellency, Yesterday. I just told people in Kitui that for them to do all those development, their leaders must support the government and especially the current debate on taxation, they didn’t know for government to deliver, tax must be remitted,” Gachagua posed 

On Mt Kenya region, the second in command faulted editors for misleading Kenyans that only one member of parliament from the region who is in support of the Finance Bill 2023

“You media people are also inciting Kenyans, you are spreading fake news. There is no way that my region [Mt Kenya] leaders are opposing the Finance Bill 2023, how comes editors are putting headline that only one MP out of 80 is supporting the tax proposals.

But we understand you, continue with that negative narrative the reason is because we defeated all of you plus your Azimio people, so you will never be comfortable,” He added 

On the same forum, Majority Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro assured the President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that the bill will sail through on the floor of the Parliament since government do not lose 

“We have read that bill, there are those grey areas which has been removed but matters to do with housing we must support it, you gave us the mandate [People] to represent you and we can’t mislead you.

On Tuesday 6th June, as Majority whip at the National Assembly will make sure that the bill passes through, there’s no way that the government can lose a bill that is going to accelerate the Kenya’s economy without borrowing,” Osoro promised 

Osoro reiterated that for government to do those infrastructural projects and other roads people and leaders are asking for, kenyans have to pay taxes without complaining as well as ending corruption
