Governor Charity Ngilu today pitched tent in Kitui East Sub-County in earnest distribution of empowerment funds.
A total of 250 groups of women, PLWDs, youth and bodaboda operators bagged cheques amounting to Sh.10 million during the exercise.
The county chief was represented by Trade CEC Esther Kilonzi, Trade Chief Officer Fernandes Mbindu, County Fund Administrator Dorothy Mumangi and Civic Education Assistant Director Shadrack Musyoki.
The beneficiary groups were drawn from the six Wards of Nzambani, Chuluni, Zombe/Mwitika, Mutitu/Kaliku, Voo/Kyamatu and Endau/Malalani.
Officials of the groups revealed plans to use the funds to boost their income generating activities including goat rearing, poultry farming and table banking in order to rake in enhanced profits.
Encouraging more residents to organize themselves into groups and apply for the revolving fund loans, CEC Kilonzi said the beneficiaries will enjoy a three-month grace period before repaying the loaned monies.
The Governor’s emissaries also intensified her calls on the Kamba community to back ODM Chief Raila Odinga’s presidential quest in the August elections.
They told the residents that time was ripe for the community to be in the national government and consequently enjoy increased resources, opportunities and shared prosperity.
On their part, the locals lauded Governor Ngilu’s commitment to uplift grassroot communities through her empowerment and wealth creation agendas.
They further affirmed their support for her reelection bid citing her impeccable performance record and visionary stewardship.
