Cherargey says Namwamba should be held responsible for the death of four people
Terms his incompetence and shoddy work done at the stadium as the reason for the loss of lives
Namwamba gives the blaims a wide berth as he calls all athletes to fly the kenyan flag high with pride and valour
The outspoken Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey has now called upon the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba to be personally liable and responsible for yesterday’s stampede that led to death of four people and scores injured at Kericho Green Stadium
In a moving press statement, the Senator who don’t blink on the wrongdoing, directed the mess to the whole sports department adding that the incident brought shame to the entire community.
“The supervising ministry of sports CS Ababu must be held responsible for this unfortunate incident. This is clear pointer of substandard work done by the ministry at the stadium.
”The incident embarrassed all of us .
My apologies to the entire country,” Cherargei stated,”
However, he further condoled with families who lost their loved ones.
“My heart goes out to the families and friends who lost their loved ones after stampede at kericho stadium yesterday.” he added
On his part, Sports cabinet secretary, Ababu Namwamba was delighted for the renaming of Kericho Green Stadium in the memory of the late Wilson Kiprugut arap Chumo, without a doubt Kenya’s Athletics “John the Baptist”.
He stated,”Chumo, who we lost last year aged 84 and laid to rest on 12 November 2022 in Kipchebor village of Ainamoi Constituency, Kericho County, phenomenally blazed the trail by winning independent Kenya’s first ever medal, bronze in 800m at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics right in the heat of our independence pride.”
“We once again celebrate this fine hero and restate government’s commitment to honour and take better care of both our active and retired sportspersons who brand Kenya better than anyone or anything else. Fly the Kenyan flag with pride and valour, confident that your country cherishes and honours you. We Walk our Talk,” Ababu added.
