Nairobi county government intends to map High risk disaster zones in the city

The Nairobi City County Chief Officer, Disaster Management, Bram Simiyu helped distribute food stuff to over 600 families that were affected by a recent fire in Laini Saba in Kibra

Said Mr Simiyu, “I am here on behalf of Governor Sakaja, who has conveyed his deepest sympathies and feels your pain the pain of each and every family on the loss of property and goods.”

He expressed the concerns of His Excellency over the growing spate of fire incidents due to the ongoing dry season, especially in low income areas.

The Nairobi City County Government is in the process of mapping out high-risk disaster zones in the city that will require construction of more fire stations to ensure rapid response whenever such incidents occur. Kibra has been identified as one of the high-risk areas.

Mr. Simiyu told residents that H.E. The Governor has committed to construct a fire station at the nearby Jamhuri showground to mitigate against the frequent fire outbreaks in the area.

He further indicated that Governor Sakaja has also pledged to assist those families that have been greatly affected by the fire by supporting in the rebuilding of their respective homes in order for the affected to live in a dignified manner in line with his promise to restore order, dignity and hope for the people of Nairobi.”
