Nairobi Contests: Urbanites Versus Countryside

Mt Kenya heavyweights in Nairobi seems to be burying their political hatchets to forge a new alignment that would catapult their oblivion against what they are perceiving as a monovalent threat of a borrowed rural-urban politicians influencing the city

In a fierce political attack targeting incumbent Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and other two previous governors, Embakasi North lawmaker James Gakuya alias Basanka seeking top county job, allayed fears of growing trend in Nairobi of being lead by non urbanites 

Gakuya called upon those who were born in Nairobi and brought up in the capital city to defend their best leaders who understands better residents problems instead of electing politicians rather than managers who are believed to be repatriating capital’s resources to their home counties or in an offshore accounts.

“I want to urge Nairobi people, you know how we have come along way because we knows your problems better, some of us have served three terms and we were brought up here making us in a better position to understand your problems than some of our competitors who imagine Nairobi people are comfortable,” Gakuya asserted pointing figures to newcomers who have taken city politics by storm.

He pointed out that some of parents in Nairobi can’t afford basic needs including taking their children to primary schools and living in vulnerable status, a condition that won’t be understood by newcomers

During the times of Mwai Kibaki, Nairobi was in the right hands and everything seemed to work, today those who should defend the Nairobi resources are treated as worthless, shall we continue accepting such political landscape to sideline us? He questioned

While accompanied by UDA Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda who is seeking county woman representative urged Gikuyu community to rally behind her since she understands better what’s affecting Nairobians

“If you want to know whether the person will deliver look around the kind of friends is walking along with. You see me with Basenka (Embakasi North MP James Gakuya) ,you can see me with Dagoretti South legislator John Kiarie and Nairobi South Member of County Assembly Mercy Waithera who  are in trio serving their third term respectively. 

This means that am walking with the right people and mine is to request you give us the direction we shall take despite our political differences and we shall ensure that we deliver Nairobi from bad and greedy leadership that doesn’t understand what’s affecting our mothers and children, ” Mutinda underscored

She jokingly asked the crowd whether a woman can deny a man third term whose first and second terms performed excellently beyond reasonable doubts 

John Kiarie of Dagoretti South, pleaded with the Nairobi dwellers led by their community to rally behind the team that is non tribal to save Nairobi from being milked dry by those the term repatriators

The trio said they have just started by the Gikuyu community but soon they are organizing another public fora with all communities including Kambas, Lughya, Luos and Abagusii

“We have just started the ground running and we are going to meet all communities living in Nairobi to chat the way forward. Nairobi is not for certain regions, we deserve our resources especially those who were brought up here. Gakuya sought unanimous support from all communities in Nairobi so as to bring back the sanity of Nairobi that has been depolarized, ” He stated. 

Mutinda on her hand requested support from her neighbors and assured them that as a woman, she would work tireless to remain relevant and strong in her position so as to change the lives of marginalized groups and  children especially those in slum dwellers for social empowerment
