Nairobi city county has signed first sister agreement with Cape Town, South Africa to enhance collaboration between the twin cities.
The partnership seeks to promote commercial and industrial growth, increase agricultural produce by partnering in provision of subsidies especially to local farmers, regulating on trade policies that will see small business enterprises thrive among others.
He reiterated that Nairobi City-Cape Town signed deal will positively impact on creation of opportunities for both countries to promote trade and labour availability.
Governor Sakaja Johnson said “This deal will positively impact our two countries by presenting great opportunities to our people”
He also added that the signed agreement exposes the tourism hub of the two countries (Kenya and South Africa) to advertise beautiful sceneries and culture for attraction of tourists both local and international.
“We have more to gain together in all areas of interests that we have including tourism sector, in that we create an expanded tourism circuit for both our countries” added Governor Sakaja.
Governor stated that the Nairobi-Cape Town coalition will provide avenue for both cities to team-up and raise a joint voice for other African cities to formulate climate policies that will insulate both cities from extreme weather events.
“Nairobi and Cape Town cities are usually vulnerable to extreme weather events, we use our influence to build coalitions with other African cities so that our voices can be heard when it comes to climate policy” he said
Cape Town Mayor Alderman Hill-Lewis said that the agreement will see both rapidly developing cities improve infrastructural networks and provision of dignified housing services.
“We are not only limited to commercial opportunities. We both are rapidly growing cities in developing world contexts and that pressure places enormous strain on the city infrastructure and the provision of housing and dignified services” said Mayor Alderman Hill-Lewis.
