As the world came to a standstill for the most anticipated football showdown of the year — the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final — soccer fans in Mbeere North Constituency joined in the global celebration, thanks to a spectacular initiative led by Leonard Muriuki Njeru, fondly known as Leo.
The final, held on Saturday, May 31, at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, saw Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) claim their first-ever UEFA Champions League title in record-breaking fashion, demolishing Italy’s Inter Milan 5-0 in one of the most dominant finals in the tournament’s history.
It was a performance that stunned the football world. PSG, backed by Qatari ownership and driven by the tactical vision of head coach Luis Enrique, unleashed a blistering attacking display that Inter simply could not handle.

Former Inter defender Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring early for PSG, adding an extra layer of irony to the night. But it was the 19-year-old French forward Désiré Doué who truly stole the spotlight. He doubled PSG’s lead with a deflected effort, then returned after the break to score a sensational third goal, already being hailed as one of the best in Champions League final history.
The onslaught continued with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia netting a fourth, before another teenage sensation, Senny Mayulu, smashed home the fifth goal to complete the rout — a comprehensive and historic 5-0 dismantling of Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Inter, runners-up in Serie A and fresh from eliminating Barcelona in the semifinals, were left stunned by the sheer speed and skill of PSG’s youthful lineup. With an average age of just 23, the French champions looked like the team of the future. Having also won the French league and cup this season, their European triumph completed a remarkable treble.
So overwhelmed were Inter that the referee chose to skip stoppage time altogether, putting the Nerazzurri out of their misery. For PSG, however, it was more than just a final — it was a coming-of-age moment for a club that had long been chasing European glory.
Back in Mbeere North, the spirit of Champions League glory was very much alive. Hundreds of fans flocked to community hubs to watch the match on big screens, thanks to Leo’s tireless work and passion for uniting people through sport.
In Kanyuambora, jubilant fans danced and sang through the night, celebrating each PSG goal with the kind of joy that made it feel like Munich had come to Embu. Karambari Market, Riandu Market, and Siakago New Bus Park in Mukono were buzzing with excitement, with vuvuzelas, flag-waving, face-paint, and a carnival-like atmosphere as families, youth groups, and football lovers came together to witness history.
But the night wasn’t just about football. It was a celebration of unity, youth empowerment, and community pride — values Leo has consistently championed. Attendees walked away with branded merchandise, cash rewards, and prizes for correctly predicting the match outcome, turning a global sporting event into a deeply personal and memorable experience for locals.
Leo, a respected youth leader and development advocate, is currently vying to become the next Member of Parliament for Mbeere North in the upcoming by-elections, following the appointment of Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.

For many in Mbeere North, Saturday night wasn’t just about PSG’s historic triumph — it was a night of hope, shared dreams, and a community coming together around a visionary leader. If community spirit was the true winner of the night, then Leo was unquestionably the man of the match.
