Gatanga lawmaker Edward Wakili Muriu and Turkana South counterpart Dr Ariko John Namoit dusts Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey’s bill on increasing term for the President, Governors, MPs from five to seven
Gatanga Member of Parliament Edward Muriu has warned that Kenya is facing more stressing issues ranging from hard economic times and high cost of living than discussions surrounding extending term limits of all elected leader
While supporting the position taken by section of Mt Kenya legislators, the first term lawmaker said that the proposed piece of legislation by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey is a private member bill and not the position of the party or party leader

“That’s a private member bill, it’s not a party bill, it’s therefore originating from someone who wants to endear himself to the President but it’s dead on arrival. We can’t drag Kenyans into an inconsequential issues,” Muriu stated.
Hon. Muriu is the current Legal Affairs Secretary of the United Democratic Alliance Party [UDA] led by President William Ruto
On his part, Turkana South Member of Parliament Dr Ariko John Namoit averred that the term for President and all other elected leaders should serve only four years instead of five as it’s in the constitution
“We should even be contemplating on reducing all these years to four so that people can work, five year term is giving some leaders laxity to relax and start politicking instead of serving the electorates,” Namoit told our investigating desk on Wednesday 6th November, 2024 alongside Parliament Buildings
