Azimio allied legislators faulted government for raiding former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s home
They demanded immediate release with his two wives from integrity centre where they have been held
Accused police for tampering with Oparanya’s laptops and turning beds upside down
Section of Azimio’s allied leaders led by Butere Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale have faulted police for raiding former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s home and tampering with his laptops
Mwale demanded for unconstitutional release of Mr Oparanya and his two wives from Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission Centre where they are detained since morning
Addressing the media outside Integrity Centre, Members of Parliament, legislator, disclosed that Oparanya’s children were also tortured in the raid
He warned President William Ruto of facing the wrath of western people should his government do not order release of their leader
“We want to tell this regime that you can not intimidate us by arrresting our deputy party charman.
The manner in which you have subjected our leader to inhumane by arresting him with his wives and confining them in a cell is unconstitutional,” Mwale stated
The legislator told EACC detectives and the person behind the arrest to respect the law and follow due process
“Dont take us back to era of Mzee Moi where opposition leaders were detained without trial. Oparanya was not summoned to appear before EACC, should they have done so, he would have presented himself to authorities.
The kind of intimidation to our leaders is political and we shall not allow it to happen in this regime,”. He added
On his part, Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Otsosi said that they are going to rally behind Azimio supporters in western region to boycott President William Ruto’s planned visit in Kakamega on weekend
“If you don’t release our leader, then be assured we will not take part in your presidential visit to Kakamega.
You are playing cards so that on weekend you can launch projects which were done by Oparanya in Kakamega.
We will not tolerate these political intimidations, we shall stand tall and firm to defend our party democracy and space,” Otsosi fumed
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna alleged that the arrest were done to inflict fear western leaders so that they may not question the roads which Kenya Kwanza regime promised to them
“Give us road B, Give us road C, you promised to tarmack 1000 KM of roads 2within the first year. Now that you haven’t done so, you are selling fear to our leaders,” Sifuna remarked
Others who have paid solidarity with the Oparanya are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kakamega Women Representative and Senior Counsel Danstan Omari
