Embattled Dadaab Lawmaker Farah Maalim has continued to face backlash after one of the luxury hotel he was scheduled for weekend excursions chased him away over the controversial remarks he made against the vibrant youth who are fighting for better governance and their space in democracy
The hotel, clarified that despite the MP having booked and checked in with them, the management was unsettled and resolved not to accommodate him even after offering crucial amount to be tolerated and be given space for the weekend relaxation
The Director of Sarova Whitesands Hotel where majority of parliamentarians and house business committees do conduct their retreats, posted that Maalim was asked to vacate the premises after he was pictured in the hotel and Kenyans questioned the establishment’s stand on the remarks made by the MP about Gen Zs
These remarks prompted the management to ask Farah Maalim to leave the establishment following an uproar on social media.
The Hotel Stated,”He is no longer a guest at our hotel. We asked him to leave the hotel earlier in the day. We do not in any way condone his inflammatory and threatening statements against Kenyans and will not associate our brand with such a person,”
Consequently, after the MD made the statements on X (formerly Twitter), the hotel also reposted the statements on their official X handle.
The MP also faied to honour summons by National Cohesion and Integration Commission which had summoned him to shed light on the remarks that he would have killed 5000 Gen Zs if he were the President William Ruto
In his defence on different media houses and social media platforms, he’s maintained the video being played was edited to turn his name and malign his political career
“It’s all editing, cutting and pasting, taking a word from here, another one from here and putting it together. There’s a lot of nonsense there. It’s Somalis basically who would do that because I weighed in on their politics. It’s not the true picture.” He has maintained since the uproar video went online
Following the remarks, Wiper Party led by Former President Kalonzo Musyoka distanced itself from the insensitive remarks and dewhipped from Deputy Party Leader and recommending the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to remove him from the Speaker’s panel
The Statement was read by Party’s Secretary General and Nominated Senator from Lamu County Shakilla Abdallah
