Miguna’s advice comes at a time when public servants have waged war against the government over housing fund
Kenyans from all walks of life have also staged protests against the Finance Bill 2023
Opposition Leaders are planning to resume public forum engagements, challenge gov’t move in court and hold series of demonstrations
Canadian based barrister Miguna Miguna has revealed that opposition leader Raila Odinga is gaining popularity and instead urged President William Ruto to pull back and listen to Kenyans on controversial Finance Bill 2023 and Housing Levy
In a his social media account, the former self-declared general, urged Dr Ruto and his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to return to the drawing board, withdraw Finance Bill as well as postponing implementation of the housing fund
“Don’t be defensive, don’t argue with the people, @Conman Raila Odinga is gaining popularity because many of the senior government officials you have appointed are failing to engage Kenyans in a transparent, respectful and accountable manner,’’ Miguna posted.
However, Miguna said he is supporting housing levy in totality but should be implemented in a manner that is widely acceptable to Kenyans-must reflect and represent the wishes, aspirations and needs of the people.
“I’m for the housing levy. 100%. I’ve said that before. However, we must have thorough public participation and include critical input from informed citizens, especially from developed countries with functional public housing programs.
Historically, any time a government imposes it’s wishes and programs on the majority of the people (Jomo Kenyatta from 1966-1978; Moi from 1982 to 1992; Kibaki from 2001 to 2008; and Uhuru Kenyatta from 2017 to 2022), the PEOPLE have always REJECTED that government and the programs it sought to impose,’’. He added
Reshuffling advisors and communication team
Miguna told President to hire new, independent and truthful advisors as well as reshuffling his communication team and hire two or three fresh faces of the people who are not sycophants
“Don’t rely on YES MEN and YES WOMEN, Stop hiring and recycling incompetent failures and graft riddled conmen. The reckless talk about two shareholders in a country of 50 million people is political suicide,’’ He added
He further urged president to stop entrenching the perception that he is inly hiring exclusively from two ethnic communities
“Mwai Kibaki was elected with 68% of votes but was defeated in a referendum two years later, we must remember that during Moi’s reign (between 1982 and 1992), detention without trial was in the Constitution. Did that make detention without trial right? No.
It’s not too much to ask for. After all, wasn’t this Kenya Kwanza government elected by the people of Kenya less than one year ago?
Those with ears will hear. Those with eyes will see. Those with memory will remember. Those conscious of the PUBLIC INTEREST at heart will adhere to this call,’’. End of Miguna’s unsolicited advice to Kenya Kwanza Government
