Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe (EGH) has praised the outgoing South Eastern Kenya University Vice chancellor Prof Geoffrey Muluvi as an outstanding career don who has left an indelible mark of achievement at the university.
Dr Malombe said Prof Muluvi leaves a legacy of leadership at the university which has grown to be a pride in the country in general.
Speaking during Prof. Muluvi’s farewell party at SEKU University today, the Governor said SEKU is not only the oldest university in the region but has also grown in infrastructure and student numbers.
The county boss reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining fruitful collaborations that will see SEKU continue to retain her place as one of Kenya’s top universities of choice.
He recalled that in 2016 when he served as the pioneer governor, a joint Task Force between his adminstration and SEKU was constituted to develop technical investigations and identification of 2,400 sand dam (Ming’eto) sites which marked a major stride for the county sand dams programme.
In addition, the County Government has been tapping into the technical expertise of the university to achieve different development objectives.
Governor Malombe said his government “will be fast-tracking the upgrading of Kitui County Referral Hospital that will continue giving the medical students an edge in their career growth.”
He said completion of infrastructural works for Mwingi SEKU campus, provision of clean and safe drinking water, and installation and maintenance of street lighting along the university’s environs are among other areas of collaboration.
Governor Malombe further assured the institution of higher learning of his government’s support in protecting her land from encroachment.
Prof Muluvi’s farewell fete was also graced by senior national and county government officials, Vice Chancellors from other tertiary education institutions and members of the SEKU’s university council among others.
