Operation Linda Jamii Youth Leaders wants Machogu to resign for making tribal appointments
They termed the move as violations to the constitution and lowering education sector into ethnicity led institutions
Machogu appointed 13 Public Universities’ Vice Chancellors without due process, a move that’s going to open court battle
Operation Linda Jamii Youth Leaders have demanded immediate revocation of the recent appointments done by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, to various University Vice Chancellors
In a press statement shared to newsrooms, the solomonic group, cited such appointments as tribal and ethnically based, leaving the principles of national values as outlined under Article 10 of 2010 Constitution of Kenya
“We demand accountability without fear or favour. If the CS does not heed to our plea, we will take the Solomonic Philosophy of Operation Linda Ugatuzi by presenting a petition to the President and the High Court seeking the CS to leave the office,” The youth leaders alongside lobby group threatened
In furtherance of the above bold statements, they warned to persuade all other comrades across the 73 Universities and Campuses to post on their social media against the tribalization of public universities by the said Cabinet Secretary
Both Prof Fred Ogola of Operation Linda Jamii and National Youth Leader Kennedy Sankara, challenged the CS to understand that his move, is meant to shoot Kenya on the foot since lots of research funding and scholarships comes from abroad.
“Numbers do not lie and facts are stubborn, in Australia, Education added over Sh4.203 Trillion to the economy in 2022, with international students in Australia contributing to Sh3.697 Trillion. This is the route Kenyan needs to take but not the myopic tribal arithmetic the CS wants us to walk. Kenya should also be positioning itself as a global education hub,” Part of the statement read.
They stated that the careless thought appointments, did not only seek to entrench and embed tribalism in national education systems, but also violated the constitution; and does not reflect national unity, diversity and national integration
“As young people whose better part of our foreseeable future lies out in the unexplored territory of Kenya’s future especially in education, research and innovation, we are resolute about supporting progressive actions that borders leadership and good governance in Kenya as this entirely catapults our image and presence in the global arena,” National Youth Leader Kennedy Sankara Stated
