Tourism and Wildlife CS Alfred Mutua on spot over skewed recruitment drive by KWS
He apologised to Lamu East MP Ruweida Obbo and Tiaty MP William Kamketi over reckless remarks
This is after Lamu East MP Ruweida Obbo demanded equal opportunities from KWS recruitment
Lamu East Member of Parliament Cpt Ruweida Obbo has taken Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Alfred Mutua head-on over skewed recruitment process by the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Charged by the responses given by the CS Mutua before the National Assembly Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, Obbo called him off by alluding that no kenyan who can’t travel to county headquarters seeking employment
Obbo rattled by the statements made by the CS recounting how his constituents were discriminated by KWS recruitment where only four youths made to the list against 11 from Lamu West, she vividly questioned the criteria used to pick few from her constituency
“I was about to walk out when CS said that nobody can fail to avail at county headquarters for recruitment. Do you know how much my people from kiunga, kisingitini, chundwa and faza spent to be at recruitment centre?
My people do spent about 16000 to and from because bodaboda itself is Ksh 600 to and from, boarding speed boat is about Ksh 6000, that job seeker will have to spend on accommodation for two days before the material day and ends up being unsuccessful!,” Cpt Ruweida charged at CS Alfred Mutua
She categorically told the committee chair Maara legislator Kareke Mbiuki that will not support committee’s report because he seemed to be compromised by the CS Alfred Mutua
“I will not support the report of this committee in whatever outcome! My conscious can tell me that you will be convinced by the CS but take it from me! She told the chair who refuted her assertions.
I will even make matters worse in those KWS centres in Lamu East because they seem not to help us,” she pre-empted of unmentioned actions
The vocal legislator stated that is the reason many youths from the coastal lines ends up being radicalized to Al-shabaab following of what the national government is treating them since they neighbours somalia border
The committee had invited the CS to answer questions from Tiaty lawmaker William Kamket where people from his constituency have been disenfranchised by those who come from larger Baringo county
Kamketi disclosed that Tiaty is constituency is equivalent to a county and is mainly inhabited by pokots while the other part lives kalenjins
However, Dr Mutua withdrew his earlier comments and requested lawmakers to visit his office so as to address those existing gaps and find remedy during the ongoing recruitment drive countrywide.
“My office will do everything possible to balance the ethnic groups living in those identified counties, we will also address the issues of minority, marginalization and gender,” Mutua stated
