Led by County Administration, Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service and Kenya Forest Service, they have challenged other departments to emulate their concerted efforts in restoring green environment in the country

Speaking on Tuesday 6th December, Laikipia East Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Muli implored on Kenyan youths who fall below 35 years to match their years with the number of trees planted as they nurture them for the proper growth

He challenged every citizen to plant trees in their homesteads or any other productive areas following President William Ruto’s directive on tree planting

“I have planted over three hundred seedlings in my home and am still planting more others in my places of work, if we can emulate world iconic environmentalists who are conservationists in green cover, our country wouldn’t lack enough rains,” Said DCC Muli.

Speaking in the same forum, Nanyuki Central Divicion Assistant County Commissioner, Marycatherine Kerongo also reiterated on the youths to plant more trees and make sure they are always taken care of and prayed for not to die or be destroyed

In an exercise which was sponsored by Equity Bank, Nanyuki Branch in partnership with the Laikipia County Government and Kenya Forest Service as well as Mt Kenya Network Forum, they planted four thousand seedlings at AIPCA church, Thingithu Nanyuki town

The Nanyuki Branch Equity Bank Manager Benson Kinyua revealed that, as a private entity, they have managed to plant over 200,000 seedlings for the last three years in some of forests and institutions within Laikipia County

“We decided to partner with the churches and public institutions because they have a responsibility to monitor the growth of the trees.

We are delighted to inform you that so far we have planted 79,000 seedlings at Gathioro-Nyeri forests, we also planted 61,000 seedlings at Burguret and other 88,000 seedlings at Ondeiga,” Mr Kinyua emphasized

However, Mr Kinyua noted that there are insufficient rains within Laikipia that has made the bank to cough a lot of money in watering those seedlings in the areas they have planted hence calling national government and county government to support them

“We also have some people cutting down trees where we have requested KDF, KPS and KFS to apprehend those involved in illegal deforestation of the forests,” He added.
