Equity Bank Donates Over 200k Seedlings

Laikipia County Government has assured environmental stakeholders that there are zealous commitments in ensuring there’s sufficient water in the area 

Speaking on Tuesday 6th December, Laikipia County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment and Natural Resources Ms Leah Njeri revealed plans by the county government to construct several mega dams are on pipeline

“In the near future, our partners in forests cover will not be incurring costs to buy water for seedlings but the government will provide fresh clean water from earth dams for watering seedlings,” Said Environment CECM

While thanking Equity Bank’s program of planting over 200,000 seedlings in the past three years, Ms Njeri called upon the communities within Laikipia to plant more trees to attract rainfalls and combat effects of climate change 

“We are working with national government in identifying places where trees can be protected from illegal logging and one of the safiest places are churches, schools because they are duty-bound to ensure the growth,” She added. 

She added that they are also working with national government and private conservancies as well as Mt Kenya Network Forum which is led by Stephen Kariuki to ensure the environment is conserved 

“We are also encouraging people to use alternative energy like biogas, LPG Gas and solar energy instead of using firewoods, this message is clear in majority of secondary and primary schools within Laikipia,” Equity Bank’s Nanyuki Branch Manager noted 

In his part, AIPCA Bishop Daniel Ndiragu underscored the churches has obligations to plant trees in a bid to consume clean gas and keeping loyalty to the presidential directive

He emphasized that he will oversee tree planting in all other AIPCA branches within the Laikipia

Kenya Forests Service representative, John Mumbuiri also highlighted the importance of planting trees as they synthesize fresh air for breathing and decarbonizing the atmosphere
