Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has officially joined the opposition, declaring an all-out political war against President William Ruto and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.
Speaking during the BUS Party Convention at the Lenny Kivuti Innovation Centre (LKIC), in Embu Kivuti accused the two leaders of presiding over failed leadership, rampant corruption, and economic sabotage.
Kivuti, now a key figure in the BUS Party, said the party would not align with Ruto’s UDA, revealing that in April 2025, the BUS Party’s National Executive Committee formally resolved not to join UDA. “We are done with poor leadership. Come 2027, Ruto must go back to Sugoi, and Mbarire must exit Embu’s leadership. We are here to rescue Embu and bring it back to life,” he declared.

The former senator dropped bombshell allegations against Governor Mbarire, claiming that over KSh 24 billion allocated to Embu County over the last three years cannot be accounted for. “There’s nothing tangible to show for that money. Where did it go?” Kivuti posed.
He accused the county boss of nepotism, citing a controversial school feeding programme that allegedly benefited Mbarire’s cousin. According to Kivuti, KSh 100 million initially meant for schools bursaries programme was instead used to fund the porridge programme.
He also flagged the alleged misappropriation of World Bank funds in Manyatta and Runyenjes constituencies and also claimed KSh 38 million worth of maize seeds supplied to farmers were substandard and failed to yield any harvest.

Kiambere Ward MCA Lenny Masters backed Kivuti’s claims, blasting the county for hiking business license fees to unaffordable levels. “From KSh 2,500 to KSh 15,000 for small traders, and up to KSh 150,000 for big businesses—it’s unacceptable,” he said, urging Embu residents to reject the 2025 Finance Bill.

Muminji Ward MCA and Mbeere North MP hopeful also condemned the punitive tax hikes and warned of tough economic times if the bill passes. “If we don’t act now, Embu people will suffer even more,” he said.
Nominated MCA Yvonne Mati delivered an emotional plea, accusing the national government of violently suppressing youth protests. “Stop killing our children. When you kill one Gen Z, you kill all of us,” she said.
The convention concluded with resolutions to solidify the BUS Party’s grassroots presence in Embu and rally behind Lenny Kivuti as the party’s flag bearer for governor in 2027.
