Women in Kitui West Sub-County today unanimously endorsed Governor Charity Ngilu’s re-election bid in the August 9 polls citing her stellar track record.


The women hailed Ngilu for implementing numerous life-changing projects and programmes across the county and vowed to vote for her en masse.


They singled out the Governor’s commitment to empower women specifically through the Kitui County Empowerment Fund which has benefited thousands of women groups in every corner of Kitui. 


“Governor Ngilu has been a bedrock for women welfare in our great county. She has been at the forefront in uplifting women economically.


“We are firmly behind her bid for a second term as the county chief so that she can continue with the good work she is doing,” said Susan Tumbo,  vice chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake (MYWO), Kitui County chapter.

The women made the declaration during commemoration of MYWO’s 70 years of women empowerment at Kabati trading center in Kitui West.


Trade CEC Esther Kilonzi, who represented representing Ngilu in the fete, reiterated the Governor’s commitment to better the livelihoods of Kitui people as per her transformative development agenda.


Mrs. Kilonzo prided that Ngilu’s administration had concluded the first phase of empowerment funds issuance in which cheques worth Sh.100 million were distributed to over 6,000 groups of women, PLWDs, youth and bodaboda riders in all the 40 wards.


“We’re kicking off phase two of KCEF tomorrow to distribute the remaining Sh.80 million of the revolving kitty which intends to boost income generating activities of the respective organized groups,” she announced. 


The County Minister urged more groups to take advantage of the upcoming second phase and apply for the funds in order to join the bandwagon of beneficiaries.


She further reiterated Ngilu’s clarion call on the Kamba community to back Azimio La Umoja’s presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga’s quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the impending national elections.


“Raila is our best bet to be inside the next government to guarantee our people enhanced representation, increased resources, more opportunities for our professionals and shared prosperity,” emphasized CEC Kilonzi.


She was accompanied by Ngilu’s Narc Party aspirants Julius Mutukaa (Senatorial seat) and Anne Mutisya (Women Representative), among other leaders.
