Kitui County Governor HE Dr Julius Malombe, EGH continues to woo more partners to help alleviate poverty from the county.

This is evident as USAID-CDT through Five Talent Kenya will pitch tent in Kitui South, along the Tsavo Conservation ecosystem for a period of 3 years.

Five Talent Kenya is a faith-led, non-profit and economic empowerment intermediary that partners with the Anglican Churches of Kenya to eradicate extreme poverty.

It is being funded by USAID Community Development Trust (USAID -CDT) to a tune of $500,000 (Ksh75 million) to implement community support projects seeking to reduce human-wildlife conflict in the Tsavo Conservation Area bordering Kitui, Makueni, and Taita Taveta Counties.

The pact which will be unveiled on Wednesday 21st, February 2024 in Mutomo, Kitui South seeks to benefit 3,600 households from the 3 counties, through resilience building against adverse effects of climate change through climate-smart businesses, increasing access to savings, enhance market linkages and mobilising community voices for natural resources management.

While hosting the delegation on behalf of the Governor, Kitui Deputy Governor HE. Wambua Kanani congratulated the ACK diocese of Kitui for considering the Tsavo Conservation ecosystem, which is facing resource centered conflicts with unauthorized human activities threatening the wildlife resources.

“The USAID Community Development Trust activity will help reverse human-wildlife conflict through a balanced wildlife protection and community empowerment.” Noted Rt. Rev Gedion Muneni, Bishop ACK Kitui Diocese.

Rt. Rev Muneni also requested for full collaboration in order to foster long-term ecological and social resilience in the ecosystem while building resilience to the impacts of climate change and ever-shrinking natural resources.

The collaboration will increase access to financial services, growing micro-enterprises, developing markets, promoting climate literacy, facilitating inclusion in natural resource management and mobilising community financing for climate action.
