Kitui today hosted the world water day to celebrate water and raise awareness of the global water crisis with a focus to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The event held at Maliku Primary School grounds was graced by the Director Administration in the national Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Sanitation Douglas Mutai, Kitui Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau, County Commissioner Mbogai Rioba, Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika, and Tanathi CEO Eng Fred Mwamati, area DCC Shufaa Mwijuma among other dignitaries.
This year’s theme – Making the Invisible Visible put the groundwater on a spotlight with calls to enhance knowledge exchange and collaboration thereby increasing awareness of the need to take care of groundwater.
In today’s ceremony, Director Administration in the national Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Sanitation Douglas Mutai commissioned the Kavisuni/ Maliku borehole serving an estimated 6,500 people in the area.
Several water works agencies from across the country attended the ceremony.
Thousands of residents attended the event.
