Directorate of Criminal Investigations Boss George Kinoti has come out gun blazing accusing the Chairman of Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati for misleading the country

Kinoti in his long statement seen by safinews.co.ke on Friday 22nd July, clarified on some issues concerning the ongoing allegations that three Venezuelans detained at JKIA on Thursday were IEBC officials

According to DCI the communication issued by the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati is not only inaccurate, but also misleading the public and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations takes with great exception, today’s statement dated July, 22, 2022, issued by the Chairman of the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati, to the effect that three IEBC officials have been detained by ‘OCS ATP,” He said

The Directorate said that no such person had been detained or any other person working for IEBC anywhere in the territory of the Republic of Kenya, and they don’t have such office known as OCS Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in their structure

Chebukati had on Thursday blaimed police for detaining and impounding three men who flew into the country from Venezuela via London carrying sixteen roles of election related materials (stickers)

According to Chebukati the three foreigners had been lawfully contracted by IEBC to perform critical information technology services for the upcoming general election

He subsequently, demanded their immediate release from the custody accusing police for intimidation, harassments and infringement of the sensitivity of the election privacy

On the other hand, police through their spokesperson Bruno Shioso had raised their concerns and gave reasons as to why they took such measures because of the sensitivity of the election

However, Chebukati has since downplayed the statement issued by the National Police Service that they had released the three foreigners from lawful custody after doing thorough investigations to ascertain whether they were duly IEBC officials

Chebukati also says no election materials (the stickers and other gadgets related to election) that the three men were carrying along with, had been delivered to the IEBC offices according to National Police Service
