Kibwezi East Member of Parliament Jessica Mbalu has backed up the position by the parliamentary budget committee on austerity measures to reduce the public fund deficit

Speaking at Pride-Inn Hotel in Mombasa on Wednesday 1st February, during an induction workshop, Mbalu, called on, other legislators to support the budget policy statement that is tailored to maximize development vote

“There are so many issues we are looking at, our country has been borrowing more for development but it doesn’t commensurate to what is on the ground

We are anticipating a situation where we cut borrowing into a sizeable and focus on on-source revenue collection, we can build our roads, schools, pay our workers from our domestic taxes if the new administration curbs corruption loopholes,’’ Jessica Mbalu lauded.

She made these remarks following National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance Chairperson Ndindi Nyoro’s position that the huge debt burden is hindering development and members of parliament are looking at cutting costs in order to direct more funds to development projects.

Kenya Kwanza’s administration has been on the neck over non performing state parastatals and have already issued the red alert on Kenya Airways, Beaches, Agricultural Development Corporations among others

“We want the government to cut all these excess weight, to cut off all these excess fats so that we have government that is lean, the government that does not have debts, that we are busy collecting taxes paying to some entities that are making loses!

What business is there for a government to own an hotel? A Kenyan taxpayer will not eat from an hotel, yet is pushed to pay the taxes to sustain an hotel from collapsing,’’ Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro pointed.

“His sentiments were also shared by Kitui Central Member of Parliament Dr Makali Mulu, who is vice chair to the committee,  what we are doing as budget committee is to reduce the budget deficit by not borrowing more every year more every year and kenyan’s have come out and said public debt is an issue and wants to be addressed,’’ Makali Added.

On matters politics, Mbalu, noted that the Azimio’s recourse shall continue so as to hold President William Ruto’s administration into accountable.
