President William Ruto’s ardent and diehard Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey is trending online after he jokingly tweeted that nothing will happen if Azimio’s leader Raila Odinga is arrested

In his Twitter account on Friday 7th July, while opposition had staged countrywide demonstrations, Cherargey asked what will happen if Odinga is arrested for leading anti government protests

The vocal United Democratic Alliance Legislator termed the Saba Saba protests as “economic sabotage” that will potentially cost the country Sh100 billion.

“If Raila is arrested today what’s the worst that can happen? Will Kenya stop? No, will the world come to an end? No, will the cost of living come down? Yes! Will Kenyans be happy? Yes!” Cherargei said in a tweet.

Raila on Friday held a rally at Kamukunji grounds where he told his supporters not to relent in their push against the Kenya Kwanza government.

He is agitating for the lowering of the cost of living and for the government to stop what he terms as punitive tax regimes against an already overburdened population.

President William Ruto assented to the Finance Bill on June 26 effectively making it a law that would see Kenyans pay more taxes including 16 per cent on petroleum products from the previous 16 per cent.

The court has, however, stopped the implementation of the Finance Act pending the hearing and determination of a case filed by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah. The court will render its decision on July 10.

Meanwhile, Raila’s vehicle was sprayed bullets as he entered the capital city of Nairobi to address his supporters at Central Park

He later thanked troops for penetrating into CBD through thick and thin

“Leo vijana wamenifurahisha kabisa. Wale jamaa wanatupa teargas, na nyinyi mnashika, mnarudisha, na hao wanaanza kusonga, tunaenda mbele.

Tukaingia town. Hiyo ndio achievement kubwa sana. Kwa mara ya kwanza tumeingia town mpaka KICC na tukafika Central Park.”

However, his supporters who attempted to force their way through were tear-gassed.

The CBD was a no-go-zone for both motorists and pedestrians with heavy presence of security officers along the streets.
