Kenyans wait with bated breath for the final verdict regarding a Kenyan Woman, Margret Nduta who is slated to breathe her last today, following a court ruling, to have her hanged for the offence of drug trafficking, in Vietnam.
This comes amidst pressure by Kenyans on social media for President William Ruto to intervene and save this Kenyan soul.
It might now be a sigh of relief for Nduta, her family and Kenyans at large after Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Dr Korir Sing’oei, confirmed in a statement that he had already submitted a petition to have the 37 year old woman deported to Kenya.
According to Dr Sing’oei, his Ministry has already reached out to Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in Vietnam, who he says, has assured him, that the matter is under consideration.
“I had a telephone conversation this afternoon with H.E. Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam over the matter of Margret Nduta.
I conveyed to Madam Hang the anxiety of the Kenyan people on the impending execution of our national and emphasized on the need to stay of execution to allow the two countries to find a path to resolve this issue. I am grateful for Madam Hang’s assurance that our petition is under consideration….” Sing’oei reiterated.
Following this statement by the Principal Secretary Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Kipkorir Sing’oei, it’s now a matter of wait and see, if his petition will get Nduta off the hook and save her life.
Nduta was apprehended at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam and sentenced on March 6th 2025 by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court for allegedly receiving $1,300 equivalent to KSH 167,000 to transport the drugs.
However Nduta denied the allegations in the same court, adding that she thought she carried legitimate goods.
Following Nduta’s death sentence in Vietnam, her family, particularly her Mother, had earlier requested, the government to give her a chance to see her daughter for the last time before her execution.

Kenyans have also been flocking the social media platforms holding Prayers for Nduta and urging their fellow Kenyans to Pray for Nduta.
The Prayers may be working following this new development.
