- National Assembly Committee wants Kemsa to have a workforce representing regional balance

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority [KEMSA] has assured Members of Parliament that they wil strive to bring sanity in a once collapsed agency headed by corruption cartels
Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Cohesion and Integration, Kemsa’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Andrew Mulwa said he’s reviewing five policies that will see total transformation of kemsa
According to Dr Mulwa is that there will be proper effective and efficient delivery of medical services in coming days at the said authority
Some of strategic departments they are working on to improve service delivery are Human Resources and Development, Procurement and Supply Chain, Finance and Logistics
“I found the organisation being run by caretaker team, senior management officials were working from home but we have put all staffs under performance contracting,” Mulwa disclosed
Mulwa said out of 962 employees he found at kemsa, only 569 are actively engaged, approving a workforce of 341
On the question why marginalized communities are not represented at Kemsa, the management assured the committee that the next recruitment will put advertisements on vernacular local radio stations to attract applicants from indigenous communities
The committee’s chair raised concerns why Turkana county which has a population of more than 2 Million people and Rendiles forming over 600,000 are nowhere to be seen in the Kemsa
On 2.9 per cent for the people living with disabilities [PWD], CEO said will fill the remaining 2.1 per cent in the next recruitment even as he assured to hire more women as stipulated in the law to address gender parity
Earlier, the committee had sought Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Institute to rationalise the staffs working at the institute with bias to livestock production regions
Marsabit Senator Mohammed Chute led committee on cohesion and equal opportunities, demanded the board to ensure that all regions of Kenya are represented in their institute not maintaining only two ethnic groups
The acting Managing Director Dr Alex Zephania Sabuni assured the committee that they will strive to the regulations once he’s confirmed from the acting capacity
