Obbo seeks National Assembly to come up with national policy that will recognise the military personnel
She sought Ministry of Roads and Transport to encourage local airlines to grant military personnel special recognition
Her motion was received overwhelmingly by the Majority of Members indicating the need to treat our gallant soldiers with dignity
Lamu East Member of Parliament Ruweida Obbo has moved a motion on the floor of the House urging government to establish a priority boarding for the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Special Forces
In a motion seen by safinews.co.ke on Wednesday 18th October, the legislator sought Ministry of Roads and Transport to encourage local airlines to grant military personnel such privileges to board airlines before the general public
“It is important to accord special privileges and honours to our military and veteran personnel akin to the practice observed in other countries including being allowed to access services like banking hall and boarding of flights ahead of the general public,” Part of the motion read.
According to the second term legislator, the practice would instill a sense of pride among the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Special Forces personnel
“This will enhance their morale and motivation thereby boosting their performance and commitment to our national security,”
Ruweida’s motion has been welcomed by the overwhelming majority, arguing that there is need to recognise the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Special Forces personnel for they face life-threatening risks as they carry out their duties to protect citizens
Members noted that there is currently no token of appreciation for the remarkable dedication, services and sacrifices made by the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Special Forces personnel
`We are cognizant of the fact that there exists no national policy or framework to facilitate the implementation of such a practice, this House urges that the National Government, through Ministry of Roads and Transport to do the necessary,” Obbo sought
Article 239 provides for the National Security organs including the KDF and KSF play an indispensable role in promoting and safeguarding national security in accordance with the constitution
