
The Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared changes in the National Police Service to restore public trust, discipline and service excellence.
Speaking to Journalists on Monday, June 16th, Murkomen assured Kenyans that his ministry will source for funds to install CCTV security cameras in all police stations across the country to monitor surveillance of all incidents happening
He said OCSs will be required to report any faulty cameras within one hour to capture all incidents happening
This will be in response to killing of Albert Ojwang’ whose blood has exposed the soft underbelly of the men in uniform, sparking demonstrations across the country, demanding immediate resignation of deputy inspector general of police Mr Eliud Lag’at

Murkomen also told the nation that there will be regular training of all police officers based on a curriculum aligned with the constitutional values and standards of the National Police service to ensure professionalism and respect of the constitutional rights
‘‘We shall train and equip our officers with the best skills of understanding the constitution and democractic space as enshrined in our principal document. Our goal will be to make station as centers of professional excellence,’’ CS Murkomen stated.
‘’We are going to include recruitment of specific cadres in our next recruitment exercise where we shall place them in every police station to infuse fresh talents, bring about modern ideas and promote professionalism within the service.
Additionally, Murkomen announced of the delayed roll out and proper implementation of digitization of occurrence books commonly known as OB to ensure all incidents have been digitally traced to avoid doctoring of cases and manipulation of documents by some of the rogue police officers.
“The Ministry will work with other security agents including Independent Policing Authority [IPOA] whom has bestowed with the proper investigations of the death of Mr Ojwang’ to ensure no police brutality and that justice is seen to have been served to the victims
I want to assure Kenyans that we have competent body, IPOA which is mandated to investigate any excessive force, in the case of Albert Ojwang’ they will carry out an independent investigations in to the circumstances that led to the lose of his life in a police cell and we shall inform Kenyans once we reach the bridge,’’ he added.

Murkomen further assured the dependents of the police officers and other public servants that the veterans bill is on the pipeline that will see all listed beneficiaries of the officers have smooth, efficient and effective compensation of benefits once their loved ones dies in line of the service
‘’The bill once passed and becomes an act of parliament, will ensure dependents of fallen soldiers and other public servants get seamless compensation without the unnecessary delays we have been seeing nowadays,’’ he said
