Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has issued a fiery warning to political operatives and government officials allegedly plotting to unseat her, declaring she’s ready to face them head-on.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations at Makima Ward in Mbeere South Constituency, a visibly agitated Mbarire accused unnamed state officials of holding clandestine night meetings in Embu, aimed at undermining her leadership.

“I know what’s going on. I’m aware certain government officers are sneaking into Embu, ferrying people from other sub-counties and holding hotel meetings at night behind my back, plotting to unseat me,” Mbarire declared. “Let them know this — I am not afraid. I will take off my dress, wear pants and deal with them decisively. I’ve been in this game forvlong, I know how it works.”

The Governor condemned the alleged betrayal, calling it disrespectful and shameful, especially coming from individuals within the same government she serves.

“It’s disrespectful. These officials work for the same government I do. I’m the county boss, and I deserve respect. If they keep pushing me, I will name names,” she warned.

On Muguka: “We Won’t Allow It to Be Killed”

Turning to the hot-button issue of Muguka, Governor Mbarire vowed to rally behind Embu farmers to protect the crop from being removed from the Crops Act, as proposed by Kilifi MP Owen Baya.

“Muguka is our lifeline. It’s what puts food on the table for many families in Embu. I will personally speak to President William Ruto to make sure it remains protected. I won’t allow it to be delisted,” she said.

She challenged Muguka critics to present scientific evidence proving the product is harmful:
“Let them take Muguka to a certified government laboratory and bring back results showing it’s dangerous. Until then, leave our Muguka alone. It’s no different from Miraa.”

Land Disputes: “Embu Will Not Be Divided”

On the growing tensions around land allocation within the Mwea Irrigation Scheme, Mbarire promised fairness and unity, urging residents not to fall into the trap of division.

“Embu has always been peaceful. I won’t allow a few selfish individuals to divide us over land. Everyone will get their rightful share. There’s no need for conflict,” she affirmed.

Leaders Back Mbarire, Defend Muguka

Her sentiments were strongly supported by Embu Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi, popularly known as “Tuonaga”, who pledged to stand by the Governor and the people of Embu in defending Muguka.

“Muguka has given meaning to thousands of lives. I stand with Governor Mbarire and all Embians to fight against its delisting. Those causing chaos here aren’t even from Embu,” said Mundigi.

Mbeere South MP Nebert Muriuki also echoed calls for unity and respect to the Governor, saying Embu is big enough for everyone to co-exist peacefully.

Other leaders attended the event included Embu Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo, local MCAs, and Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuor, all of whom rallied behind the message of unity and support for the region’s economic interests.

This year’s Madaraka Day marked 62 years since Kenya gained indepedence, and was celebrated nationwide on June 1.
