Kenya to include German language in their curriculum syllabus

President William Ruto has announced that going forward, learning institutions will learn the German language

Speaking during the joint press with Chancellor Olaf Scholz at State House, Nairobi, Ruto stated that the move will enable the two countries to bridge the language barrier

“We agreed to introduce teaching and learning of German in basic education institutions, TVET and other institutions of higher learning,’’ President said.

Ruto added that Germany has agreed to support Kenya to train more teachers to assist in the language

“We agreed to align as much as possible the Kenyan and German TVET curriculum,’’ he said.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ruto also agreed to establish a twinning institutions framework that will pair Kenya’s TVET colleges with those in Germany

“What we seek is a synergy to enrich learning and grow the economy from the bottom up, Germany has agreed to enhance Hustler Fund to increase affordable and easy access,’’ he added

Scholz is in Kenya for a state visit. He makes a return to Africa for a three day that will see him visit Ethiopia and Kenya

He’s also scheduled to visit Geothermal power plant in Naivasha, and Olkaria Geothermal Station to increase power grid

Germany-Kenya relations is a key strategic approach aimed at funding the expansion of the Olkaria Geothermal Station to increase power grid which has seen the cost of electricity remain stiff

The German Chancellor requested their country to review the tarrif barriers to allow Kenyan products to enter its market and that of the larger Europe

He agreed to support Kenya’s efforts to conclude the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the East African Community and the European Union on the principle of variable geometry

He will later visit the Africa Union [AU] offices, the focus being regional and international security
