Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji for masterminding the violent protests that rocked Embu town during the Gen Z anniversary demonstrations on June 25th 2025.

Speaking passionately to the press after touring several businesses vandalized in the CBD, a visibly furious Mbarire claimed she had received intelligence linking Gachagua to the chaos that left shops looted and property worth millions destroyed.

“Rigathi Gachagua, you are not God! I am not afraid of you, and I know you were behind what happened in Embu yesterday,” Mbarire declared. “You’ve been working with some Embu leaders to bring this county down. This is a warning, leave my people alone, leave our property alone, and leave Embu alone. I dare you to try that again.”

Mbarire further alleged that Gachagua had been using local leaders for his own selfish political ambitions. She accused him of manipulating Embu’s political landscape to his advantage, warning that she would not be intimidated.

“You cannot claim to love Embu and at the same time fund thugs to destroy it,” she said. “One of the looted supermarkets employed dozens of our youth. Now, they’re jobless and suffering all because of your dirty politics. Stop taking the people of Embu for granted.”

The Governor didn’t stop there, she also took aim at Manyatta MP John Gitonga Mukunji, accusing him of being Gachagua’s political pawn.

“Mukunji, stop being misused. Gachagua is destroying your political future. You have potential, but you’re letting someone else use you to ruin your own county,” she said.

Mbarire reminded the young MP that her over two decades in politics gave her deeper insight into the tactics being used to destabilize Embu.

“I’ve been in politics for more than 20 years. You’ve only been here for three. What makes you think you understand this county more than those of us who’ve walked this journey longer?” she challenged.

She further dared Mukunji to pursue leadership ambitions the right way.

“If your goal is to be Embu Governor, go through the right channels. The path you’re taking will only destroy you,” she warned.

In her final remarks, Governor Mbarire vowed to fight back against what she termed as an orchestrated scheme to tarnish Embu’s image and cripple its development.

“I will protect Embu with everything I have. I will not let a few selfish individuals destroy this great county. Embu will rise, and I will ensure it remains respected and dignified,” she concluded.

It now remains to be seen whether Gachagua or Mukunji will respond to these explosive allegations.
