Traders in Embu town are living in fear following a disturbing surge in shop break-ins and rampant theft, which has left many counting heavy losses and contemplating shutting down their businesses for good.

The latest incident, reported just last night, saw two electronics shops—specializing in phones and laptops—broken into by unknown assailants. The daring heist has left the shop owners devastated, with goods worth millions of shillings reportedly stolen.

Eyewitnesses and residents allege that a ruthless gang, armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons, is behind the spate of crimes. Shockingly, the criminals are said to be operating not just under the cover of darkness, but in broad daylight—heightening the tension and posing a grave threat to both traders and shoppers alike.

“This is no longer just theft—it’s a direct attack on our livelihoods and our safety,” lamented one shop owner who requested anonymity out of fear of retaliation. “We cannot run businesses while constantly looking over our shoulders.”

Many traders say they have already closed their shops or are considering relocating to safer areas, citing inaction from local authorities and a growing sense of insecurity in what was once a bustling commercial hub.

The concerned residents and business community are now calling on the government and local security agencies to act swiftly and restore order. They are demanding increased police patrols, installation of CCTV cameras in crime hotspots, and a full investigation into the identity and whereabouts of the criminal gang.

“We need urgent intervention before Embu turns into a ghost town,” said another trader, who requested for anonymity. “Business can only thrive in an environment where people feel safe.”

As the community awaits action, fear continues to grip Embu, with hopes that a solution will come before the town’s economy takes an irreversible hit.
