Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuor has firmly assured residents and visitors that Embu remains secure and peaceful, even as the County Security Committee moves swiftly to summon four individuals linked to a viral video threatening former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The decision comes barely a day after Gachagua wrote to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, demanding the arrest of Embu-based blogger Simon Njagi Njiru, popularly known as “Gikundo wa Gikundo”, alongside Josiah Kariuki alias Mtetezi Puff, Susan Nyaga, and another unidentified person. The group allegedly recorded and circulated a video issuing threats against the former Deputy President and Democratic Party (DP) leader.
Speaking to journalists at his office in Embu town, Commissioner Obuor said the summons are part of wider efforts to enhance public safety and curb the misuse of social media. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate individuals spreading falsehoods or creating panic for political mileage.
“We have summoned four individuals who appeared in a video circulating online, issuing threats against the former Deputy President and DP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua. Such acts are reckless, irresponsible, and criminal. No one should purport to act on behalf of the government to spread propaganda or incite fear among Embu residents,” Obuor said firmly.

Obuor dismissed what he termed as “malicious rumors” suggesting that Embu County had become unsafe, insisting that security agencies are fully alert and in control. He called upon residents to ignore misleading social media posts and to cooperate with law enforcement officers in maintaining peace.
“I want to reiterate clearly, Embu is secure, and it will remain secure. Claims that our county is unsafe are false and meant to create unnecessary tension. Those behind such propaganda must stop immediately or face the full force of the law,” he warned.
The County Commissioner added that security operations across the county have been intensified, with routine patrols and close monitoring of potential threats to ensure calm ahead of upcoming political events.
Addressing the issue of political campaigns in the region, Obuor reaffirmed that Embu is open to all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation. He condemned reports that certain politicians had been threatened against visiting the county for campaign activities.
“I’ve received reports that some politicians are being warned not to come to Embu. Let me make it very clear, Embu is open, free, and safe for every Kenyan. No one has the authority to block or intimidate leaders from visiting or campaigning here,” Obuor said.
He cautioned individuals using social media platforms to spread fear or issue threats to desist immediately, adding that the government will not hesitate to take legal action against offenders.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wrote a formal letter to Inspector General Douglas Kanja, requesting the immediate arrest of “Gikundo” and his associates. In his letter, Gachagua cited personal security concerns following the viral video in which the group allegedly threatened him ahead of his planned visit to Embu between November 16 and 24, 2025.
During that visit, Gachagua is expected to campaign for Democratic Party candidate Newton Kariuki, popularly known as “Karish”, who is contesting the Mbeere North Parliamentary seat.
The video, which has been widely shared on social media, sparked a flurry of reactions and heightened tensions online. However, Obuor’s statement appears aimed at quelling fears and reaffirming Embu’s stability as political activity intensifies in the region.

Obuor concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in Embu County, warning that anyone attempting to destabilize the area through threats, propaganda, or misinformation will be held accountable.
“We are closely monitoring the situation, and I can assure residents that all security measures are in place. We will not allow chaos or insecurity to take root in Embu,” he declared.
As political temperatures rise ahead of the Mbeere North campaigns, security officials say Embu remains one of the most stable counties in the Mount Kenya region, urging the public to focus on peace and development rather than online incitement.
