As Deputy President Kithure Kindiki prepares to visit Embu County later today, tensions are high and expectations even higher. The Embu Business Community has issued a bold set of demands, calling for urgent action to address what they describe as a full-blown security crisis in the county.
Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, Emilio Mwaniki, alias Mungatana, the Chairman of the Embu Business Community, did not mince words. “The security agencies in Embu have failed us. They are sleeping on the job,” Mwaniki said. He demanded a total overhaul of local security leadership, citing escalating insecurity that has left businesses vulnerable and residents terrified.
Mwaniki also called for the reinstatement of Assistant Chief Jackson Kamau, whom he praised for serving “diligently, without fear or favour.” The business community wants the national government to reintroduce former security policies, including community policing and the Nyumba Kumi Initiative, which they credit for previously reducing crime rates in the area.
“Criminals are operating fearlessly—even in the heart of Embu town,” Mwaniki warned, adding that increased police patrols and installation of proper street lighting are critical to restoring public safety.

He further appealed to the Deputy President to support affected business owners, many of whom, he said, are struggling to stay afloat after suffering losses due to theft and vandalism. “Most of us are surviving on loans. We need support before we collapse completely,” he said.
Martin Muchira the Chairman of the Bodaboda Safety Association Embu County and Eastern Region, acknowledged the recent efforts by the national government to enhance security, especially following Wednesday’s dramatic break-in at a local phone shop that saw property worth millions stolen. Still, Muchira stressed the need for new blood in the security apparatus.
“Officers who’ve been in Embu for over five years have grown too comfortable. We need fresh, committed personnel who will serve without fear or favour,” he urged.

Muchira also lamented the rising cases of motorbike-related thefts, stating that despite numerous reports, not a single boda boda has been recovered. Nevertheless, he called on all sectors—including mama mbogas and boda boda operators—to come out in numbers to welcome the Deputy President, expressing hope that Kindiki’s visit will bring tangible change.
Community leader John Thoini added to the concern, recalling the brutal murder of a young man in Embu by unknown assailants “The incident was reported, yet no arrests have been made. We need action, not excuses,” Thoini said. He welcomed Kindiki, expressing confidence that his presence would catalyze real change.

Also in attendance was Rosemary Njoki Kanampiu, Vice Chair of the Embu Business Community and a 2027 Women Representative hopeful, who echoed the sentiments of her colleagues. She revealed that her own business was recently targeted by criminals.
“We welcome Kindiki, but he must not leave without offering a lasting solution to the insecurity crisis gripping Embu,” Njoki declared.
With emotions running high and expectations mounting, all eyes are now on Deputy President Kindiki—and whether his visit will mark the turning point Embu desperately needs.
