CS Peninah Malonza tours Iconic Kenyatta International  Convention  Centre-KICC

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Hon. Peninah Malonza  has revealed the  government is set to carry out a major facelift of the iconic Kenyatta International Convention  Centre ,KICC.

Speaking during her inspection tour at the historical  facility  today, the CS noted that there was need of giving the iconic building a facelift as part of maintaining country’s historical sites. She said that the renovation is projected to cost about Ksh.200 million.

Ms Malonza met the facility’s management team led by their CEO Nana Gecaga who briefed her on the status of the building.

She toured nine spaces used for meetings including the presidential office and VIP Lounge. 

The following rooms were inspected, the amphitheater which has a capacity for 350 people, Tsavo hall has a capacity for 4000 people, Aberdare hall has a capacity of 350 people, Lenana hall has a capacity of 350 people 

Simba Hills Room has a capacity of 200 people, VIP Lounge can host 20 people when used as a boardroom, Delegates Lounge located on the first floor with a capacity of 400 people 

Impala Room, a small room with capacity for 40 people , Turkana Room located on the first floor has a capacity for 70 people, Revolving restaurant located at 27th floor and Helipad at the roof top 

In total the Hon CS was told that KICC has a total of 15 meeting rooms.

The CS was also briefed on KICC lease agreement with the National Assembly which will end in one year. The management said that the building earns the country revenue of sh. 200 million annually. 

Ms Malonza said that her ministry is dedicated to uplifting KICC to the modern international standards. The architectural landmark was built 49 years ago and the iconic building is a national monument as per Museums and Heritage Act of 2006 and hosts the statue of the first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
