National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Friday 9th August, took Cabinet Secretary Nominee for East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Beatrice Askul Moe to explain how will she treat Youth youths who have made tremendous changes in the government including rejection of contagious Finance Bill, 2024

While appearing firmly, the nomimee told National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula led committee she is of the spirit that youth are among the huge population and needs to be treated with a lot of care lest the country falls under belt.

“I will in cooperate young people in all activities in all ministries through a deliberate policy to ensure they bring their expertise,” She admitted recognizing the Gen-Zs whom have pushed for the broad based Government in place

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed sought how will the nominee mitigate the problems affecting the arid and semi arid areas given that dhe comes from the region

“People from the arid regions have suffered for a long time. You have been nominated as a person from the ASAL area, what different thing will you do to help those people living in ASAL areas.

In her responses, Ms Beatrice Askul noted that she believed through her own experience that she is the best person to deal with their issues.

“Pastoralists are good people and can adopt new ideas if properly sensitized. I speak from experience because of personal experience.

You need numbers to grow the economy. You need a population to grow and consume. If we increase our numbers, trade within the member states will also improve.,” she responded

She satisfactorily responded that coming from communities that fight generally doesn’t mean that she is not a Kenyan and that she has a duty to deliver to all Kenyans given chance

“It doesn’t mean that because we fight and experience cattle rustling I shouldn’t serve them,”. She poked

Samburu West legislator Naisula Lesuuda found out to know how will the nominee walk the tight balance between the interest countries and communities interests.

Askul, who was once Chief Executive Committee Member for Water, Agriculture in Turkana County noted that sovereign and political interests should always be protected

“I will consult with other teams so that I don’t disadvantage either of the country while being firm.

On questions about mitigating the perennial droughts and relief food which has formed basis for the position’s holder to be fought by friendenemies, she affirmed the committee that will work on solving the problems

“Instead of waiting for bad moments to act, we can work on improving when the weather is good to avoid the bad picture,” The CS Nominee for EAC, ASALs and Regional Development Hon. Beatrice Askul Moe pointed out boldly
