The Council of Governors has today called for the immediate withdrawal of arrest warrants and coercive measures targeting county chiefs, escalating its standoff with the Senate’s County Public Accounts Committee.

Speaking on Tuesday during a press conference at CoG HQs, Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi who is Wajir Governor warned that the police actions risk politicising oversight and undermining constitutional safeguards.

The Chair urged the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to establish the facts behind the attempted arrests, cautioning against what he termed a possible miscarriage of justice.

The Council accused CPAC members of harassment and intimidation, insisting its boycott of committee proceedings stems from unresolved grievances.

Abdullahi noted repeated attempts to engage Senate leadership had failed, deepening tensions between the two institutions.

Governors argued that singling out individuals for arrest while broader disputes remain unsettled is unfair and disproportionate, vowing to resist measures they believe compromise accountability and due process.

Tharaka Nithi Governor who is the Vice Chair added that not until the four senators who were adversely mentioned of extorting governors are removed from the committee by the Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi they won’t appear before that committee

The Council stated that they don’t have any problems with other senate committees that governors have been appearing including Senate Special Funds and County Investment Committee chaired by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Otsosi, Devolution, Cohesion and Equal Opportunities chaired by Mandera and Marsabit Senators, stating that the members from those committees conduct themselves in a dignified manner
