Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has reiterated her call on Kenyans to only elect leaders with clearly defined development agenda in the August national polls.
Speaking during launch of Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga’s governorship bid at Homa Bay grounds, Ngilu said time was gone when people elected leaders based on rhetoric alone.
“What this country needs is visionary and people-centred leadership. Leadership that understands and addresses the needs and interests of the electorate,” noted the governor.
She added: “I’ve listened to my sister Gladys Wanga outlining her plan for Homa Bay people as their next governor and I’m convinced that she’s best suited to take over the county leadership.”
While exuding confidence in women leadership, the county chief promised to join hands with Gladys Wanga and other like-minded leaders for the benefit of their constituents besides those of other counties through inter-county development partnerships.
Ngilu further drummed up support for Azimio la Umoja Movement and ODM chief Raila Odinga’s presidential bid noting that Raila was best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Unlike power thirsty and political trickster DP William Ruto, Odinga is an accomplished statesman who can be trusted with steering this nation into social, economic and political prosperity,” she argued.
Governor Ngilu, who was the chief guest, was accompanied by her Nairobi counterpart Anne Kananu, Women MPs Fatuma Gedi (Wajir), Esther Passaris (Nairobi), Sabina Chege (Murang’a) and Narok Senator Olekina Ledama.
Also in attendance were MPs Mishi Mboko of Likoni, Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), and Public Service and Gender CAS Beatrice Elachi, among other elected and aspiring leaders.
