Locals in vast Kitui county have expressed their happiness though demanding more incentives from the governor
The empowerment funds is meant to cushion their investments and SMEs
However, the fund, since it was established, has been marred with corruption claims and unfair distribution
Governor Charity Ngilu’s empowerment trail today headed to Chuluni Ward in Kitui East where 20 groups went home with cheques worth Sh.1,000,000.
County Fund Administrator Dorothy Mumangi and Assistant Director for Civic Education Jacob Maingi led the cheque issuance exercise at Kanguu market. They were joined by area MCA James Mbuvi Wangunze.
The groups of women, people living with disabilities, youth and bodaboda operators were drawn from Ngungi, Kenze and Kyanzae villages.
The locals thanked Governor Ngilu for her commitment to improve the lives of Kitui people through the empowerment initiative and pledged their firm support for her re-election bid.
While urging the beneficiaries to utilize the funds prudently, Mrs. Mumangi said the loaned monies will help the groups to boost their investments and income-generating activities such as poultry business and table banking.
Meanwhile, MCA Wangunze extoled the county boss for fulfilling her campaign promises to Chuluni Ward constituents from enhanced healthcare services, adequate water provision, improved roads network and skills development.
However, some of leaders led by Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai and sections of county assembly members have told safinews.co.ke that some groups part with good amount of money before being awarded with the fund
“Some areas have never benefited and we know what they were told when they sought the loans,”. Another leader who sought anonymity told Safi News
