We need a total overhaul of the post-training recruitment infrastructure to conform with the local and global labour market demands.

The global labour migration has its own life. It’s a phenomenon that none can stop. Those are the advise of the former National Nurses Association of Kenya President – Emeritus. Mr Alfred Obengo.

In an exclusive talks with Safinews.co.ke on Monday 19th February, Obengo urged government to put up an infrastructural structures that will offer top-notch  training to attract the local and global job market

This comes at a time when President William Ruto has been announcing  million of jobs in abroad that are ready for grab- urging professionalls and skilled labour personnels to take up the advantages of Government’s diplomatic ties in applying for those opportunities

“As we leverage on the global demand for our professionals especially the Human Resource for Health, we must ensure that the cross border employment contracts are dignified.

We must equally and seriously reflect on the long term effect of the global migration on our local service delivery system,” Obengo observed.

According to the Head of State, National Youth Service will be an anchor institution for all deployment training programmes for Kenyans seeking to work abroad.

“We have also agreed that NYS and we are already concluding negotiations with Germany, Saudi Arabia and ex other eight countries on the export of labour and the NYS will be the central organization for pre-deployment training so that Kenyans will understand what they need to do as labour exported from Kenya,” President stated on Friday 8th December, 2023 during a pass-out parade of NYS recruits  at Gilgil-Nakuru County

But Mr Obengo instead, advises the institutions to rethink on improving their training programmes for job retention and also boasting job seeker’s morale to work locally

“We must re-engineer our local labour market to attract the same professionals we are exporting.

We must re-engineer our local labour market with incentives of global standards, to attract the same high calibre professionals that we are exporting,” he remarked.

He underscored that our populace back home are also in dire need of the same specialised services. But our professionals have no choice but to migrate in search of better terms and conditions of service.

“The global human resource migration is inherently driven by the search for a better and enabling working environment.

It is evident that Man and woman have always travelled miles away from home in search for food and the urge for a better tomorrow is timeless
