The society wants the status of protecting State Houses as private entities to be quashed

They want demonstrators to be allowed to march to all State Houses and State Lodges and present their petitions

A civil society organisation has now filed a petition in court to have security officers facilitate protesters in their expected peaceful procession to the State House, Nairobi and all other State Lodges.

In a court documents seen by safinews.co.ke on Monday 29th July, Operation Linda Jamii, the petitioner notified the Inspector General of Police (2nd respondent) of the expected nationwide march scheduled for, Tuesday, July 30 which will see demonstrators present their petitions to the said premises.

OLJ says that the processions will be made up of their members and Kenyans of good-will as they head to deliver the petitions to State House in Nairobi, and state lodges in Kisumu, Sagana, Mombasa, Nyeri, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kitale and Kakamega

Under the auspices of Prof Fred Ogola, they stated that given the existing trends of the police force being used against peaceful protesters, the police IG should ensure that officers exercise restraint in the nationwide march.

“We filed a petition this morning to declare that the act that makes state house among other protected areas is unconstitutional and should allow protestors to access them and present their petitions. Should alllow Gen Zs to be able to do their peaceful protest infront of state houses,” Prof Fred Ogola stated.

He notified journalists that they have dispatched notices for the protests to all the state houses and state lodges. “We have also done notices to all the police stations, regional police commanders and IG to facilitate these protests,” he added

The lobby group confirmed to General public that their petition was received by all State Houses only Mombasa which declined the notice. The protests are to take place on Tuesday 30th July, where the court has to make the decision today.

“In all these protests, despite the fact that Kenyans have consistently communicated their intention to, peaceably and unarmed, express their disaffection with the regime on the streets, they have been met with untold violence, intimidation, torture, detention without trial, murder and enforced disappearances at the hands of the State,” reads the document in part.

The petitioner further faulted the Kenya Kwanza Administration for deploying officers to intimidate and torture Kenyans, breaching the provisions of the 2010 Constitution.

“The nation is quickly degenerating into a police state. Voices of dissent are being criminalized on a mass scale, due process is being denied those deemed to be against the regime, the horror of enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings is back in full force,” they told the court.
