Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi’s supporters have gone mayhem after realising the money raised for Ilmotiok Secondary school was stolen by the head teacher and board members.

Appearing before Nanyuki Resident Magistrate Lisper Nyaga, Ilmoroti Primary School Headteacher Learad Mbotela from Laikipia North denied embezzling Sh 2.251 million and released on a cash bail of Sh 1 million

Mr Mbotela had been charged with stealing the funds that had been raised by the governor for building a secondary school in the said area due to lack of nearby facilities.

He allegedly stole the funds between September 25 and December 17 in 2021 at KCB Bank’s Nanyuki branch

The money was meant for building Ilmotiok Secondary. He was the treasurer of the accounts.

He pleaded not guilty and asked to be released on bail.

Ms Nyaga released him on cash bail of Sh1 million or an alternative bond of Sh2 million, with one surety of the same amount.

“The matter will appear for mention on June 24, 2022 and hearing on July 20 this year. The accused should be served with all the necessary documents pertaining to this case,” the magistrate said.
